Beer-battered Atlantic Horse Mackerel

This crispy beer-battered Atlantic Horse Mackerel is a simple yet flavourful dish that highlights the natural richness of the fish. 

Method

Prepare the fish:

  1. Pat fish completely dry with paper towels.
  2. Season lightly with salt
  3. Dust each piece lightly with flour (this helps the batter stick).

For the batter:

  1. In a bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, salt and spices.
  2. Slowly whisk in cold beer until the batter is thick but pourable (like pancake batter).

Fry the fish fillets:

  1. Heat the oil in a pan
  2. Dip each floured fish fillet into the batter.
  3. Fry 3–5 minutes per side until golden brown and crispy.
  4. Drain on paper towels

Serve with some lemon, side salad and potatoes.
